Why Try a Contact Lens Fitting?
Want freedom from glasses? Contact lenses offer natural vision, a full field of view, and are ideal for sports, makeup wearers, or simply everyday comfort. However, not all lenses suit every eye.
A personalized fitting appointment at an optometry practice is essential to ensure comfort, ocular health, and optimal vision especially if you’re a first-time wearer or switching lens types.
Our Contact Lens Fitting Process
Performed by a certified optometrist, our comprehensive fitting takes 30–45 minutes and includes three essential steps:
- Eye assessment: We evaluate your corneal curvature, tear film quality, and prescription to determine lens compatibility.
- Personalized selection: Based on your lifestyle (sports, screen work, makeup), we recommend the ideal lens type — daily disposables, toric, multifocal, or RGP.
- Hands-on training: We teach you insertion, removal, hygiene, and safety practices until you feel confident — no prior experience required.
Leave your appointment with clear vision, comfortable lenses, and the knowledge to wear them safely every day.
Step 1: Ocular Compatibility Evaluation
Your fitting begins with a thorough evaluation of key parameters that determine lens compatibility: corneal curvature (keratometry), eyelid dynamics, and tear film stability. Because contact lenses sit directly on the ocular surface unlike glasses which maintain distance even minor mismatches in base curve, diameter, or material can compromise comfort and eye health.
When needed, we perform corneal topography to map your corneal surface with micron-level precision, ensuring the selected lens design follows your eye’s unique contours for all-day comfort and optimal vision.
Step 2: In-Office Lens Trial
You’ll experience a real-world trial with professional fitting lenses tailored to your prescription and lifestyle needs — whether you require daily disposables for convenience, toric lenses for astigmatism, or multifocals for presbyopia. During the 15–30 minute wear period, we assess three critical factors:
- Comfort: No foreign body sensation, even after extended wear
- Vision quality: Sharp, stable acuity without fluctuation
- Ocular response: Healthy tear film with zero signs of dryness or irritation
Using a slit lamp biomicroscope, your optometrist evaluates lens movement, centration, and interaction with your ocular surface — adjusting parameters until we achieve the ideal balance of vision, comfort, and eye health.
Step 3: Hands-On Training — Insertion, Removal & Care
Never handled contact lenses before? No problem. Our optometrist provides personalized, hands-on training until you feel fully confident:
- Insertion technique: Clean hands, proper lens orientation, gentle placement without touching the cornea
- Removal method: Safe pinch technique or thumb-index slide, avoiding corneal scratching
- Lens care: Selecting the right multipurpose solution or hydrogen peroxide system — or guidance on daily disposable convenience
- Hygiene essentials: Handwashing protocol, storage case hygiene, replacement schedule
- Red flags: Recognizing signs that require immediate removal and professional consultation (pain, redness, light sensitivity, blurred vision)
Most first-time wearers achieve independence within 10–15 minutes of practice. And remember our team is always here for follow-up questions or refresher sessions.
Finding Your Perfect Lens Match
During your fitting, we’ll help you choose the contact lens type that fits your life not just your prescription:
- Daily disposables: Grab, wear, toss. No cleaning, no case ideal if you’re new to lenses or wear them just for weekends, sports, or special occasions.
- Reusable lenses (2-week/monthly): Cost-effective for everyday wear. Just a quick nightly clean with solution perfect if you wear lenses 5+ days a week.
- Toric lenses: Engineered for astigmatism they stay perfectly aligned on your eye for stable, clear vision.
- Multifocals: Seamless vision from your phone to the horizon — no reading glasses needed (a game-changer after 40).
We fit all major brands: Acuvue® (Johnson & Johnson), Biofinity® (CooperVision), Dailies® (Alcon), and more always selecting the material and design best suited to your eyes.
