A comprehensive optometric examination costs €30.
It is partially reimbursed by your mutual insurer (typically between €10 and €20, depending on your supplementary insurance plan).
Do I need a medical prescription to see an optometrist?
No. In Belgium, you can consult an optometrist without a prescription or referral.
Optometrists are first-line healthcare professionals authorized to perform comprehensive eye examinations, detect visual disorders, and prescribe corrective solutions (eyeglasses or contact lenses).
How often should I have an eye examination?
- Children: at age 3, then every 1 to 2 years
- Adults (18–60 years): every 2 years, even without symptoms
- Seniors (60+ years): once a year (increased risk of glaucoma, AMD, cataracts)
- Contact lens wearers or post-operative patients: at least once a year
Do you offer premium progressive lenses (Varilux, Zeiss, etc.)?
Yes, we offer high-end progressive lenses from leading manufacturers:
Varilux (Essilor), Zeiss, Hoyalux (Hoya) and Nikon.
We perform precise centring with individual measurements (pupillary height, posture, reading distance) for optimal comfort.
What documents should I bring for my first appointment?
Simply bring:
- Your ID card
- Your mutual insurance card (for reimbursement)
- Your current eyeglasses (if you wear any)
- A recent prescription (if you have one, but it is not mandatory)
Do you offer frames for children?
Yes, we offer a selection of durable, lightweight frames for children aged 3 and up, including specialized brands like Miraflex (metal-free, unbreakable) and Nano Vista.
All our children’s frames come with a breakage warranty and free lifetime adjustments.
How long does an appointment take?
- Standard eye exam: 30 to 45 minutes
- Comprehensive visual assessment: 45 to 60 minutes
- Contact lens fitting: 40 to 50 minutes (including on-site trial)
